I recently saw HBO’S “Witness: Libya” documentary and it shows how totally fucked up Libya is now. The US and NATO did another fine job of “liberating” yet another country aka sending them back to the stone ages. Under Muammar Gaddafi, Libya had the highest living standard in Africa. The government of Gaddafi brought the Libyan government from poverty and debt, to prosperity and debt-free status in 41 years. Before Gaddafi, literacy in Libya was only 10%. Since Gaddafi’s leadership, literacy had risen to 90%. Undernourishment in Libya WAS at 2% – a figure lower than that of the world center of “democracy,” the United States of America. Libya ranked No. 53 on the United Nations Index of Human Development. Public Health Care in Libya prior to NATO’s “Humanitarian Intervention” was the best in Africa. Libya HAD the highest standard of living in Africa. In 1969, before Gaddafi it was the lowest in the world at just $60 per year income. Libya HAD free public health care, free education. Life expectancy at birth was 72.3 years (2009), among the highest in the developing World. With regard to Women’s Rights, World Bank data points to significant achievements. Women in Libya HAD equal rights, not only as a philosophy, but in practice.

In a relative short period of time, Libya achieved universal access for primary education, with 98% gross enrollment for secondary, and 46% for tertiary education. In the past decade, girls’ enrollment increased by 12% in all levels of education. Libya was one of the few countries in the developing World which maintained a system of price controls over essential food staples (bread, milk, rice, beans, etc.) Under Gaddafi’s oil-revenue-sharing program, each Libyan received $500 (Dollars) deposited into his or her bank account each month. Prior to Gaddafi’s revolutionary re-making, Libya was a large US military base used for bombing trainings. Libya was home to the largest US military base in North Africa. This is what they mean by peace: let your country be used by a nuclear-armed state (that previously used them on civilians and which justifies this horrendous act to this very day) to practice bombing targets while you spend your time partying. “I come in peace… and leave you in pieces.” Job well done. SMH.

Your reporters are not the story. Not even if they get tear gassed. The story, THE STORY is that black people are dying because of institutional racism. Now do your jobs and tell the real story!

msnbc:

"From 2006 to 2012, a white police officer killed a black person at least twice a week in this country." - MHP

Melissa Harris-Perry gives a heart-wrenching tribute to the deaths of black men that have occurred at the hands of police in the past decade.

Ferguson police: We can’t release the autopsy report because that might bias future juries.

Ferguson police: *releases footage of Brown stealing from a store and having a physical confrontation with an employee*

Ferguson police: This event has absolutely nothing to do with why Brown was killed. It’s not important at all. It obviously isn’t meant as bias either.
